Super Bowl ad Creates Controversy

There are many interesting stories out there I could write about this week but I must pipe in on the Tim Tebow controversy. This Sunday during the Super Bowl the pro-life group Focus on the Family will air an ad starring Tim Tebow and his mother. They will tell the story of how the mother chose to continue with her pregnancy after being advised by doctors to abort because of an illness she contacted in the Philippines.  The point?  It was Tim she was pregnant with.

There is already opposition by women’s rights groups calling for CBS to cancel the ad. Oh yeah, and they haven’t even seen the ad! I thought their stance was all about choice??? What is it with these pro-abortion groups, (I would call them pro-choice but it no longer seems to be about choice at all!) when a woman chooses life there seems to be something wrong with her. Sarah Palin, although a successful mayor, reformer, governor, independent wife and mother of five, has a child with down-syndrome and suddenly is stupid and incapable of being a leader. Why? Not because anyone can point to anything specific but instead because of her beliefs, one of them is the belief that all human life, even potential life, is a gift. The left never commends anyone for choosing life – am I the only one who finds something seriously wrong with that? I guess it is hard to find women who are willing to star in an ad claiming how wonderful their life is because of they chose abortion so I can see how the pro-abortion movement can say this ad is unfair. Personally I cannot claim I am without scars from my past in many areas including this one, but it just seems to me that the left has forgotten the real reason why they fought this fight. If, as they say, it is about choice, then given what Tim Tebow has become, not only as an athlete but as a human being, the left should be celebrating the choice his mother made.

This ad celebrates choice as well as life – on an issue that appears impossible for the two sides to compromise on here we have a story all of us can celebrate. Note to left: your fight for a woman’s right to choose can include life; it does not always need to be about having an abortion. It might get some of us on the other side not to view you in a negative light. To argue, as Joy Behar did, that Tim Tebow could have been a rapist or worse does not help you cause. To protest an ad you haven’t even seen shows the same intolerance you claim to fighting against! Also, to claim as the Huffington Post does, that the Tebow’s own life story is full of lies is just flat out wrong.

One last thought on the subject – It did and still does bother me that President Obama said he does not want his daughter’s to be punished with a baby. When did a child become a punishment?

State of the Union?

Special tax for banks? That doesn’t sound constitutional. George Soros agrees with Obama’s approach towards the banks but feels the plan does not go far enough. If you don’t know who George Soros is you should since he, along with Andy Stern, are the people who run Obama. Both these men should scare you regardless of your political leaning. Stern has visited the White House more than anyone since Obama has become president. If you click on his name above it will take you to a video where we uses words like; “Worker of the world unite,” yes, straight out of Communist Russia and he admits to being a big fan! Stern goes on to say, “We are going to use the power of persuasion and if that doesn’t work we will use the persuasion of power.” There is also a link to Obama’s speech to the SEIU unions. Please, don’t take my word for it; take Obama’s word for it. In his words, “Before I debate healthcare, I talk with Andy Stern and SEIU members!” There is more. Just so you know, my problem is not what Obama believes or where he stands politically, debate is fundamental to the survival of the republic. Certainly I disagree with his views and policies. My real problem is anyone who disagrees with his administration is demonized and then they try to destroy them. The administration does it even to their own; just ask Senator Lieberman what it feels like to read about attacks on your wife. The play book is Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. I have linked Alinsky’s name to a picture, (famous one) of Obama as a professor teaching Alinsky! Just Google this man’s name and you will find plenty more information on this man.

I tell all of this to you so you will understand why the far left will viciously attack the president after tonight’s State of the Union speech. Obama, and yes, I will watch it so you don’t have to, will appear to be going to the right. A freeze on spending already has the left in frenzy, just read some of those blogs like the Huffington Post, Daily Kos, and others. The battle has begun but it is not between the republicans and democrats, but instead the democrats and progressive democrats! For one full year the administration continued to blame the republicans for halting progress. The problem is they forgot that many of us are more than capable of doing math; if you have over 250 votes in the House of Representatives and you only need 218 votes, you can lose votes on your side and still win! In the Senate you need 60 votes to get whatever you want passed. Until Scott Brown was elected just recently that is exactly what they had, 60 votes! The republicans could do nothing, if fact, much of the healthcare bill was written behind closed doors! Be ready to see Obama attacked by his so-called friends because that is the real battle going on right now. Also, even though the disease of progressivism has spread like wildfire in the Democratic Party there are many progressives in the Republican Party as well. All of us need to work to eliminate this disease from both parties.

I will watch the State of the Union even though they’re usually about as exciting as watching paint dry, but for you, I will watch.

The world has really turned upside down when you cannot even rely on a Toyota.

Happy Aniversary

As many of you know I am working towards the goal of making my living as a writer. Of course I have started two novels, both I consider to be the great American novel, or at least they are taking me so long to write they should be. I started this blog because I felt like I was alone in thinking the government was out of control. I started this blog to prove to myself as well as those who hire writers that I could write on a deadline. And I started this blog so I would be able to let all three of my followers know I have been hired to write for an online newspaper called examiner.com. I will be the Rapid City History Examiner and I will send you all an email as soon as my page is up and running. You will be able to subscribe to my page for free! It is easy to do and you will get email alerts when I write an article. The articles will NOT be political; I will have this site to voice my opinions on. My page will dive into U.S. history as well as history here in South Dakota in short, entertaining articles. (Who knows, I may even add pictures to it!) Since my pay is partially calculated by my number of subscribers I ask that you take advantage of membership for the sake of my daughter, please, I need this second job just to insure she has plenty of chicken nuggets, Barbie dolls, and Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups. (Okay, okay, the Reece’s are for me but still…) More information to follow.

My soon-to-be brother-in-law (Have you asked yet Peddle?) is on MySpace (This link takes you t their page) and has three songs, all that remind me of my high school days listening to new wave. I pretended to hate new wave then because it was not “cool” with the friends I hung out with but secretly I enjoyed the music. The music is good and the vocals are unique. Great stuff! Now, no groupies Peddle or you will be hearing from big brother! Also here is a link to an article written about the band, The Fictional West. Against every capitalist bone in my body the group is giving away, yes, you heard it, giving away their music! FYI guys – I would have paid for the songs.  Congratulations, I plan on tuning in on a regular basis.

Today is my one year anniversary and I would like to say to my beautiful bride, I love you and happy anniversary! She is working from 8am to 5 pm and I am working from 4pm to 1am. A friend of mine told me we should celebrate our marriage everyday and not just once a year, I have tried to do that over the past year and feel I have come up short, but I know she has done her part in that. Thank you for your support, love, and being my best friend. We plan on an obsessive weekend watching the second season of 24. Since we are working on paying off all our debt this is what we can up with to celebrate. Yes, we are showing our age! If you have never seen 24 I do warn you, it is as addicting as heroin!

Happy anniversary to both Glenn Beck on his show and President Obama as president.

Newly elected U.S. Senator Scott Brown from Mass is a sign that we the people still can make a difference in the United States. Regardless of where you stand politically, know that this country is ours, not the politicians! This just shows someone who is not connected to the machine, democrat or republican, can win. The truth always is revealed.

Do not forget to tune in on Friday to the Glenn Beck show. This episode is not a political one it is a documentary on Mao, Stalin and Che. For any of you who know someone who has worn a Che T-shirt this is a must see. Tune in to Fox news, 5pm est., on Friday. Warning that some of what you will see may be shocking.

Hope you are having a great 2010! Until next Wednesday, stay safe and let’s not forget to pray for those who are suffering in Haiti.

Color Blind

The thing about this administration and current congressional leaders is there is no shortage of things to write and comment about. What Harry Reid is quoted as saying in that new book I do not find to be that big of a deal. What I see is an opportunity to have a real discussion about race instead of comparing how Reid was treated versus how Lott was treated back in 2001. The party that appears to be the color blind party is the republicans. To prove my point let us look at the record; the democrats were the party of slavery, Jim Crow laws, and racial preferences. Through programs like affirmative action and thinking like, “we need a Latina on the Supreme Court,” the democrats have always tried to divide us instead of bringing us together.

History shows that an individual, in the eyes of the Democratic Party, advances or is held back not on merit but instead on color. Today the democrats try and sometimes succeed in creating laws that to me say, if you are Black, Hispanic, or Native American you are incapable of making it without our help. The ironic part is the only thing the democrats have accomplished is getting minorities to vote for them. If anyone has any evidence of what an almost 100%, if not a 100% majority, of democrats in control in cities like Detroit, Los Angeles, and New Orleans have done for any group I would be interested to see it. It has been reported that in Detroit more than half of high school students are not graduating. More than half!   The progressive democrats have been in power in Detroit for so long it is impossible to spin the truth about the disaster their policies created.

Even though I was busy searching for the next party at the time I cannot forget the nomination of Clarence Thomas and how he was treated by the democrats. For some reason if you are a conservative you are not black, still trying to figure that one out!   Who had the first Black Secretary of State?  The Republicans. Who appointed the first Black female Secretary of State? The Republicans. Sotomayor may be the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice but let us not forget that Bush nominated the first Hispanic to the Court and the democrats destroyed him. The democrats might say, “yes, you’re correct, but we have the first Black president.” Not true. Condi Rice, Clarence Thomas, and Colin Powell all were appointed by the Republican Party. President Barack Obama was elected by the people of the United States. Over 65 million voted for him and rumor has it a couple of them were white.

Yes racism still exists, hate based on black, red, white, religion, and no religion is still out there. They are the minority that continues to shrink. My American hero has always been Jackie Robinson. I love history and I love baseball because of its richness in history. Years ago I wrote a paper on Robinson and learned what he went through to integrate baseball. For three years the owner of the Dodgers asked him to shut-up and just play. His performance on the field changed the hearts and minds of his teammates, the fans and announcers like Red Barber. When Robinson first was signed to the Dodgers Barber went to the owner to resign. Barber was convinced to stay and said he was a better man because of Jackie Robinson. We can all thank God we do not need another Robinson, those three years almost killed him. Even though racism still exists Robinson paved the way for Black men like Obama to win or lose/ fail or succeed, without it having any bearing on how the American people will see the next Black candidate that runs for president. We the people have become color blind. Regardless of how Obama is viewed as a president America will not use his record for or against the next Black president. Thank you Jackie Robinson, thank you!

A few programming notes before I go; today, on the Glenn Beck show he has Sarah Palin for the full hour. It’s like Conservative porn!

Regardless if agree or disagree with Beck tune in to his documentary on January 22, 2010, this is not political just a history lesson we all need to see. He will take a look at Mao, Che, and Stalin. Since it seems some Americans have been praising some of these madmen I think it is only fair we find out who they really are. Understanding history is vital given the current direction we are going, please, tell your liberal friends to tune in as well.

Finally, a terrible tragedy happened yesterday in Haiti. My heart goes out to them as well as my prayers. Until next week, thank you for “tuning” in!

How Are You Going to Say...?

A few thoughts now that the holiday season is over:

1.       The attempt on Christmas to blow up an airplane in Detroit proves Muslim extremist are not interested in who the president is. Can we please come up with how we are going to handle the terrorists we catch? President Obama continues to bomb and kill terrorists with drones in Pakistan but when we catch a terrorist’s, so we don’t look bad, we better read them their rights? Any of this smell of hypocrisy?

2.       My skin still crawls when I see Nancy Pelosi.

3.       Looks as if the democrats may still ruin their plans to give us a healthcare bill, our prayers may be working!

4.       Christopher Dodd will not be running for re-election. No matter who gets elected in Connecticut, we cannot do worse. The Attorney General who is running in his place is also a snake. I have seen him interviewed a couple of times and all he cares about is how he can advance his political career. I predict he will lose come November.

5.       Nancy Pelosi? Really?

6.       When we go to the polls to vote this November let us not forget the Republicans burned us as well. If anyone thinks voting for a third party or someone who “cannot” win is throwing away your vote, just ask the people of Philadelphia how they feel about their vote for Arlen Specter.

7.       Add the 12 trillion dollar debt to the fact that Nancy Pelosi is third in line to become president and it is hard to sleep at night.

8.        I do feel safer now that Congress has voted to increase the ceiling on our debt, don’t’ you?

9.       Senator Ben Nelson gets the federal government to pay his state’s share of Medicare forever while the democratic senator here in South Dakota, Tim Johnson, just “gives” his vote away. Shame on you Johnson, next time I want a one year supply of Reese’s peanut butter cups for everybody here in South Dakota. At least the selling of my soul will be comforted by chocolate filled with peanut butter.

10.   Finally I understand how someone like Pelosi gets elected… The state of California allows an entire farming community to go without food and water to save a two inch fish but fights hard to legalize marijuana. Nothing like having your priorities straight!

11.   Does anyone find it strange that we were not asked by Bush or Obama to sacrifice anything during a war? Both my step-children are in the military and yet I feel a million miles away from the war, even when Bush was president. Somehow, someway we need to get back to all the people working towards the goals of our nation. This is how we end up a country that slowly believes it is the government’s job to take care of us. My New Year’s resolution is pay more attention to what happens in our schools; to understand what exactly we are doing in the war on terror, or man-made disasters if you support the current administration; I will learn what the candidates stand for and will vote not for the party but instead for the man or woman; I do not have to agree with everything my candidate believes but I will be comfortable that when they take the oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, they mean it; finally, I will march on Washington D.C. on August 28, 2010, rumor has it we may never get this chance again.

12.   I plan on calling it twenty ten instead of two thousand ten, I know that you have been  sitting on the edge of your seat, up late at night wondering which way I was gonna go… The wait is over. I wonder what Nancy will call it???

Happy New Year!

A History Lesson

Every since the Civil War the states in this country have, piece by piece, given away their power to the federal government. In Article I, Section 3, of the Constitution it states that the two Senators sent from each state are elected by the state legislator. The 17th amendment ratified in 1913 changed all that by electing members of the senate through popular vote. The progressives who wrote this amendment said this would end corruption.   The creators of the Constitution wanted to keep senators from popular election “because the sense of the States would be better collected through their Governments” and “The preservation of the States in a certain degree of agency is indispensable” (Ed. Ketcham 54).

The genius of the bicameral system gave the voice of the people through the House of Representatives, to be elected by popular vote every two years, and it gave the States a voice by having their government elect two senators every six years. Madison argues in Federalist No. 51 that naturally in a republican government the legislative branch power can dominate. To counter this Madison writes we divided the legislator into two branches and used two different modes of election.

Madison, in Federalist No. 10 writes the bicameral system prevents an over-reaction to public opinion from becoming law. An example of how this has worked recently is with the AIG bonuses. The House of Representatives, a large group of congresspersons constantly worried about what the people are feeling, voted and passed a 90% tax on those bonuses. Not only was this an overreaction but also unconstitutional. The senate was set up to combat these kinds of knee jerk reactions and be the calming, moderate voice of our system. In the end the president was not forced to veto or sign into law what was an obvious angry reaction stemming from the bailouts. The problem is, due to the senate being elected by popular vote, that more and more senators are on the right and left fringes of the parties. We are slowly losing that calming voice in the senate because we no longer send representatives of the state free from worry of their next election.

Many of you have watched, perhaps in disgust, many of our senators being “bought off” so they can pass the healthcare bill. This is the result of changing how our bicameral system works designed by our founders. Had those senators been representing their states, had they been looking at how this bill will affect their state budget, we would be looking at an entirely different outcome.  I know, I know, the senator from Louisiana will bring home 300 million dollars to her state to help with the after math of Katrina. (Have any of you been wondering what is taking so long in New Orleans? We are the people who built the Empire State Building, during a depression, the largest building in the world at that time, in 411 days! Yes, I feel the same about ground zero too.) This payoff does not even come close to the actual costs of the healthcare bill to the states. (Nor does it put a dent in what the spendulous bill will cost each state in the future.) This payoff is so she can tell the people what she did since senators are no longer accountable to the state. I would say corruption has increased in large part because we ratified the 17th amendment. I would say this was but another power grab by the progressives to move us closer to a social democracy. I would say it is time to repeal this amendment…

Healthcare Bill Eve

It would be nice to write a cute story about Christmas or how God has changed my life. It would have been poetic to tell the story of my daughter asking me, “You, have, Santa’s, phone number daddy?” I would have loved to be telling you a story of redemption, of forgiveness, or maybe a story of hope. I wish I could, I wish my mind was not haunted by a Congress that plans to once again chip away at our freedoms and completely ignore the Constitution.

Maybe Prince Harry (I mean senator) was right to compare slavery to the healthcare bill. The compromises that went along with keeping slavery legal is the moral equivalent to what our current Congress will do with this healthcare bill. We wanted to cover every American in this bill but according to those who have read the bill; 24 million Americans will still be without health insurance. We wanted to curb costs but the CBO claims this bill will only increase prices. Finally, this hurry up and pass it now bill because if we don’t people will die does not even go into effect until 2013. So, we get nothing you promised Mr. President? Could that be? Have we turned this bill into something not even the radical lefties in your party oppose? Mr. President, have you managed to turn both sides against this complete mess called reform? Will you, as promised, veto this bill due to the earmarks it contains? Will we the American people get the five days, and I mean after the Christmas season, you promised each of us would have to see the bill? Why is it I am left only with more questions each time the progressives pass new laws?

For the first time in history you are now required to purchase something to be a law abiding citizen. As Democratic senators continue to be bought off or strong armed into voting for this disaster we the American people are at home, trying to enjoy the holidays, trying to understand what they are thinking in Washington, and hoping to still have jobs come January when these taxes go into effect. Yes, that’s right folks; we get to pay for his now so we can be covered in the future. On the eve of the healthcare bill I am comforted by the countless calls into Senator Nelson’s office. I am comforted by the movement in this country that will translate into most of these boneheads in Washington losing their job. I hope, as I re-read the Constitution, that we try using this document once again to govern our country and repeal this bill in 2011.

Our Most Precious Right

“It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.” Patrick Henry.

It seems to me as if there is a war on Christians in this country. My understanding or misunderstanding of the Bible may or may not mean I am a Christian but what I do know is our country was founded on Christian principles. In one state capital there is an atheist sign stating, in so many words, that God is a fairytale and putting down everyone who believes in God. Why do they feel it necessary during the Christmas and Hanukah season to display such hate? What is their point? What is their agenda? Why would they want to demean the vast majority of Americans? I don’t believe I will be able to answer any of these questions but I will write what this right under our Constitution means to me.

The role of religion in the United States has been considered our most precious right under the Constitution. The founders were clear on the subject, the first amendment on religion reads; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Time and again one can read how Thomas Jefferson or James Madison viewed the teaching of religion in public schools. The intent was that all faiths, Christian and non-Christian, would have legal equality under the law. The only requirement for a certain faith to meet in a public building in the opinion of Thomas Jefferson was that that building be open to all faiths, and all sects. In today’s world the Supreme Court has twisted the intent of our founding fathers by outlawing the Lord’s Prayer and the reading of the Bible in public schools.

Regardless of the attacks on religion and God I do not believe they will ever be able to eliminate Him from our society. There seems to be a sense of jealously from the non-believers with the need to claim their moral grounding on the sides of buses and billboards in New York. The Soviet Union spent over eighty years trying to eliminate, or better yet become, God in the eyes of its people but failed. During World War II Germany did its best to kill and terrorize the belief of God out of the Jews, but failed. The question is not the elimination of God but instead how He will react to our attempt to secularize a nation built on the foundation of God given freedoms that include religion. I believe God is the perfect gentleman and if we ask him to stay out of our schools, He will and if we do not ask our leaders to follow basic moral principles, God will allow us to have leaders who have none.

I volunteer at my daughter’s church serving the kids food on Mondays and found myself in an interesting position two weeks ago. One of the teachers was trying to diet and he was beginning to doubt if he could be successful. My first thought was to share with him how through prayer I have quit smoking and drinking but found myself afraid to mention prayer. The funny thing is my daughter goes to a Lutheran school. Yet I watch as people like George W. Bush and Sarah Palin are ridiculed for their religious beliefs so I paused before mentioning God. It will be through our silence that the secular progressives will win. So I plan to “freely exercise” my first amendment rights and share, when asked, the role God plays in my daily life.

In closing, I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas!

The World is Upside Down

First, is Harry Reid serious about in any way comparing healthcare opponets to those who opposed slavery?  I don't care what his "real" point is.  Lets not forget the only person in Congress today to vote on the Civil Rights bill in the sixties is Robert Byrd, a democrat who voted against it.  I'll bet Harry is counting on his vote.

How can the President continue to blame the last administration for the debt but claim we need to spend more money to get out of it???  Pointing at bad behavior does not make what your doing right?!?  In case you didn't realize it Mr. President, many of us were upset with how the Bush Administration spent money like drunken sailors.  STOP THE SPENDING!

Has anyone in the government actually read the Constitution?  They don't read the bills, Unions are writing the bills, the EPA is now going to jam CO2 penalities down are throat, is there any reason why we still need Congress?  What do they do?  I really would like an answer to this question.

I pray each day the President will learn how to use the word victory and our military in the same sentence.

Can we please see the "science" behind global warming so all of us skeptics can be brought on board.  If the science is so solid why did the emails discuss hiding actual facts?  Can the debate be reopened?  If not, why?

Finally, and I'm sorry for being politically incorrect, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

The War in Afganistan

I will make this short this week since our president has just made the decision to send 30,000 troops to war.  I have already said I would support his decision I just wanted him to make one!  I sit here listening to the end of the speech, at least, I think it is the end, and feel my first duty is to pray for those who will be put in harms way.  I may not agree on the number, how he made the speech all about him, the questionable use of West Point, or how he could not find a way to use the word Victory! but I do hope his plan ends that way.  I hope my gut is wrong on the feeling that the president's heart is not in this...

Happy Thanksgiving

On the eve of Thanksgiving I sit here and reflect on what I am thankful for. Of course there is the usual, those who are in my life today, family and friends. I am also grateful, and thankful, for my country. Yes, even though it seems so unpopular in the current environment I am a patriot. I began to wonder what that word “patriot” really means. I know it is more than just a football team that plays on Sunday or just a word that means “love of country.” I am a patriot because part of my country includes those I love, I am a patriot because we have a common bond of language, history, and fundamental belief in God. I am a patriot because I believe, as many who are fighting in Iraq and Afganistan, in the words of Patrick Henry, “Give me liberty or give me death.”

Being a patriot for me comes with a strong desire for freedom. I am grateful that here in America we debate over the definition of marriage yet in Iran if you are a homosexual you are put to death. I am grateful for these words from Patrick Henry, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionist, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here”  (Quoted from Give Me Liberty by David J. Vaughn 253).

Finally, I want to thank those who have served and are serving in the military. There are 25 million veterans and almost 700,000 have died fighting for us. My step-daughter and step-son will both be serving in the Middle East next year, I pray for your safe return. Again, thank you for your service.  To everyone, family and friends, I love you and Happy Thanksgiving!

We Still Need Change

Just a few thoughts:

1.  Why does the left still need to attack Sarah Palin who lost the election and is unemployed? Rumor has it she wrote a book, oh yeah, my copy arrives today!

2. Horray!  The Maersk Alabama armed itself and defended itself from the pirates!

3. Wow! President Obama gave an interview to a "non" news orginazation, Fox.

4. Can we see the healthcare bill Harry?  It would be nice to be able to have an actual debate where both sides are not "guessing" what the bill contains.

5. Does there appear to be anything behind Nancy Pelosi's stare?

6. Mr. President, make a decion on Afganistan, please! Whatever it is I will support it. Either give our troops the support they need to win or get out.

7. Is it possible to stop with all the political correctness and have a real conversation about race?

8. Really? We need to bring these terrorists to New York to try them? I am just not sure how this makes any sense whatsoever! Especially when on the sameday the justice department announced military tribunals for some at Gitmo.

9. Is anyone out there as worried as I am about the over 14 trillion dollars of debt our country has aquired? As we cut our expenses at home to meet our future goals the government, living on credit cards, increases their spending??? Since 2002 we have doubled our debt.  In California, because the state has mismanaged the books, they are taking an addititonal 10% out of everyone's paycheck. Don't worry though, it is just a loan, of course they will find the money to pay it back. I would like to see, democrat or republican, someone who says what they mean and means what they say! In fact, I think it is time the people demand it!

Finally:

10. Can we concentrate on the 2010 elections and stop asking Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Milt Romney, and others, (Including if Hillary will run against Obama!) if they are running for president? None of them will say yes right now!

Like I said, just some thoughts. Last I would like to leave you with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr."

"But through it all, God walks with us.  Never forget that God is able to lift you from fatigue of despair to the buoyancy of hope, and transform dark and desolate valleys into sunlit paths of inner peace." (September 15, 1963, at the funeral of the two girls killed in the bombing of a church in Birmingham, Alabama.)

Veterans Day

I have spent the past two days wondering what I wanted to write about today. So much has happened in the past week it is easy to get caught up in a confused diatribe of all the events and make sense out of none of them. With the recent mass murder at Fort Hood and today being Veterans Day I am hoping this will just write itself.

As I have written before the attack on Fort Hood, in my opinion, is a terrorist attack. I heard Chris Mathews make a statement that contacting Al Qaeda is not a crime. I wonder what would have happened to a Major in the military who had continued to “reach out” to the Nazi’s back in 1943. What would we say about a military officer with ties to the Soviet Union during the Cold War? It is a slap in the face to our men and women serving to claim this guy suffered from some sort of pre- PTSD. We are so afraid of what might happen to a soldier who happens to be a Muslim we are forgetting about the 13 who died at Fort Hood. I certainly do not condone any sort of violence towards another simply based on their faith, in fact, that makes us just like them if we do.

This is a terrorist attack plain and simple. Our soldiers are now concerned about what can happen on a military base, where they should be safe, some may now wonder about the Muslim soldier serving next to them. If these types of fears are not the point of terrorism then please, someone explain what terrorism is.

I do want to thank those who have and are serving in our armed forces. A special note to my step father who is a disabled Vietnam veteran, I love you and I thank you. For both my step son and step daughter who are currently serving in the Air Force, I love you and thank you. I hope our president will give our troops what they need to complete their mission and come home in victory, the alternative, I hope, is not an option.

The Attack at Fort Hood

The shooting at Fort Hood tells me the war is far from over.  It is hard to argue this was not another terrorist attack.  The man was an extremist.  I have read some reports that he suffered from PTD.  How can that be?  The Major has not served one day in combat.  To claim this is caused by the wars is a slap in the face to all our troops who have served and are currently serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.  It drives me crazy when an awful act like a mass murder, on our largest military base, is used for political gain.  Shame on the media for calling this anything other than a terrorist attack or a man who just snapped!

Hello Cruel World

First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Anthony Flores, I live in Rapid City, South Dakota and I just love to stir things up, oh, I mean write. I start this site and blog for many reasons, one, I would like someday to earn my living as a writer and hope to use this blog to get my name and work out there. Second, the blog is a way of expressing my views in the hope that those who agree and disagree with me will engage in a vigorous debate. Not always will my blogs be political but the direction of this country is important to me. I am a conservative who loves the history of our country; my two historical hero’s are George Washington and Jackie Robinson. It is refreshing in today’s world when I hear someone’s hero is a founding father. Baseball is my favorite sport and reading what Jackie Robinson did and the lives he changed during his tenure with the Brooklyn Dodgers is a story each American should read. I look forward to hearing from all of you, if you are someone I have asked to check out my site that does not get “into” blogs or leaving comments please send a friend, left or right, who enjoys this kind of thing. Please email me if you would like to be notified when I write an article, freedom@anthonydflores.com or visit my website donttreadonme1776.com I will be writing at least once a week on Wednesday by 5pm eastern time. I am currently in my senior year of college so once I graduate I will be able to spend even more time on my blog.

The fight today is progressive versus founding principles in my opinion. The progressives believe we need experts to tell us, or “nudge” us in the right direction. I believe in the individual, it will not be government that gets us out of our problems, it will be you and me. The American spirit is dying in this country as the government grows and grows telling people it will take care of them. That kind of thinking will keep us mediocre at best, it is time to stand up and let government know the individual will lead us out of the economic crisis and many other problems, so, simply put, just get out of our way!

Yes, Glenn Beck is my inspiration, so those on the left, come, try and convince me the error of my ways, for the rest of you who love America for who and what we are, help me show those on the left the error of their ways!

God bless you and yes, God bless America!

Anthony D. Flores
